“Katrina is a beautiful woman, son. I honestly believe that the two of you will be great together” Margaret said with a smile.

“That’s the thing I keep trying to tell you ma. We’re not a couple. We’re just friends.”

“You’ve been saying that for almost a year now. When is that going to change?”

“I don’t know, we haven’t talked about it much lately.”

“And you’re cool with being just friends?”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Alonzo it’s apparent that you’re in love with her. Even Ray Charles can see that.”

Alonzo couldn’t deny it. He was falling more and more in love with Katrina every day. It was getting harder for him to accept just being friends when he wanted so much more. She’d been interning at the Children’s Hospital for a total of 6 months. She was extremely dedicated and loved what she did to help those children. She volunteered to visit the Baltimore Children’s Center to care for the sick children there. She’d already been gone a little over a month. She called, text and emailed him every day but it was no longer enough.

“Why don’t you just call and tell her how you really feel, son? Sure this thing with the two of you started out as a friends with benefits kind of thing but eventually it developed into something bigger than that. A whole year, Alonzo?”

“A little over 2 years, it was going on long before I mentioned her to you.”

“2 years, how much longer do you plan to wait?”

“Ma I care about her a lot but I mean…”

“What son? What is her story?”

“What makes you think she has one?”

“I can look into her eyes and tell. She was once a troubled young woman. Maybe she still is but being with you brings out the best in her just as being with her does for you. Alonzo you got a job, a real job. Do you know how proud I am of you?”

“Yeah ma, you’ve told me” Alonzo smiled.

“And she got you to cut your hair. You’re a changed man because of her. You’ve changed for the better and I like the new you. I love it even. It’s a good look for you honey.”

“Thanks ma, I think so too. Katrina does make me happy.”

“What’s up man, long time no see” Rakwan said as he dapped up Nuckles.

“Man I’ve been laying low trying to get my thoughts together.”

“That’s what’s up. You straight now?”

“Yeah I’m good.” “Yo Mike, let me get a gin and sprite.”

“You and Kat decide to make it official yet or is she still stringing you along?”

“What?”

“How many other guys you think she’s fucking besides you? I mean let’s face it, I know Chance hitting it every now and then. He can fly into wherever she is or fly her out any time. There’s a strong possibility that Nick’s getting his share too. Kat got a sexual appetite like whoa but I’m sure you know that though, right? You probably done got tired of her already.
